Happy Holidays

It has been a while since our last blog post! A lot happened at the garden over the past weeks. Michael and officer cadet(!) Zisky handed the garden over to Carol and Christian. Many thanks to our veterans and volunteers for making us feel welcome and for your patience while we’re getting our feet under the desk! A nice addition to the garden, the quiet area, experienced great progress and will soon be able to welcome anybody who wants to relax and regenerate in the midst of diverse and calming plant arrangements. A work group from Castle Huntly with creative joiners built a beautiful pergola that will offer a sheltered place from which the quiet area can be enjoyed. As the days began to shorten and the temperature steadily sunk (we already discovered ice on our small pond!), it was time to get the garden ready for winter. The plant beds were filled with fresh and nutrient rich compost and delicate plants were cosily wrapped in fleece. We were also able to harvest some of our last produce, such as celery and celeriac, which was transformed into a hearty soup. Even though the garden goes to sleep, there is already a new generation of flowers and vegetables in the green houses waiting for Spring. Last but not least, We’re happy to announce that the kitchen rebuild commenced on 13 December! Everybody is looking forward to a more spacious kitchen and dining area. Since we’ll have a stove and oven, we’ll be able to create more delicious dishes with our produce. It will also be an opportunity to show our veterans how to prepare simple and healthy meals that they can recreate at home. Since we’re approaching the end of the year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank our funders, volunteers, support services in the community, and everybody else who helped create a welcoming and supportive place for our veterans. The garden will close on Friday, 21 December and open again on Monday, 07 January. The Dundee Therapy Garden team wishes everyone happy holidays and all the best for 2019!
